Submissions are closed

On 9 March 2021, the National Skills Commissioner, Adam Boyton, was tasked by the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, to undertake an in-depth study on the factors affecting the supply and demand of care workers.

The Study examined the needs of the care and support workforce, in relation to aged, disability, veteran and mental health care, both in the near term and longer term to 2050.

Submissions to the Study were open from Wednesday 19 May 2021 to Wednesday 16 June 2021 and have now closed.

Discussion paper

We published a discussion paper that outlined the scope and focus of the Study, including existing work to be used in the analysis. It included questions that were used to guide submissions to the Study to gather insights on areas of the care and support workforce where information is not readily available, is not well understood or is emerging in nature.

What's next

The Study's final report was provided to the Hon Stuart Robert MP, Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business by 30 September 2021 and will inform the Australian Government’s care workforce strategy. If you have questions about the Study, please email careworkforce@skillscommission.gov.au.
