The latest Vacancy Report published by the National Skills Commission shows that there were 118,300 newly lodged job advertisements in June 2020, an increase of 26.3% over the month.
Despite this improvement, the impacts of COVID-19 are still being seen with job advertisements 31% lower than the level recorded in June 2019.
Although recruitment activity remains well below pre COVID-19 levels, increases in job advertisements were recorded across all occupational groups. Over the month, the strongest gains were recorded for Community and Personal Service Workers up by 54.5%, followed by Sales Workers (39.2%) and Technicians and Trades Workers (32.1%).
Across Australia, all states and territories recorded an increase in job advertisements in June 2020, with the strongest gains recorded in Tasmania (up by 52.3%), followed by the Northern Territory (35.7%) and Victoria (35.4%).
The Vacancy Report, which is published monthly on the Labour Market Information Portal, is based on the Internet Vacancy Index (IVI). The IVI analyses newly lodged Australian job advertisements on three job boards – SEEK, CareerOne and Australian JobSearch – to further explore opportunities in the labour market at a detailed occupational and regional level.
