The latest Small Area Labour Markets (SALM) data from the National Skills Commission shows that prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were considerable differences evident across the labour market at the small area level.
Encouragingly, 58.8 per cent of SA2s recorded an unemployment rate of less than 5.0 per cent, up from 58.0 per cent in the March quarter 2019. A decrease in the unemployment rate was also reported by 47.9 per cent of Statistical Area Level 2s (SA2) over the year to the March quarter 2020.
The SALM publication is published every quarter and provides unemployment and unemployment rate estimates for around 2,200 Statistical Area Level 2s (SA2s) and 540 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Australia.
The June quarter 2020 issue of SALM will be released in late September 2020.
