Internet Vacancies remain at a 12-year high

Internet job advertisements increased by 3.3% (or 7,800 job advertisements) in April 2021 to stand at 243,500. This represents the 12th consecutive month-on-month increase in job advertisements, which now stand 245.8% (or 173,100 advertisements) above the level recorded in April 2020.

Month-on-month growth was recorded in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

The extraordinarily high year-on-year growth figure reflects the fact that April 2020 was the Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) series’ all time low point, with 70,400 job advertisements recorded over the month. The April 2020 results demonstrate the extent of the COVID-19 impact on Australian recruitment activity, with job ads falling 56.2% over the two months to April 2020.

Job advertisements are now up 44.8% as compared to pre-COVID-19 levels and stand at their highest level in over 12 years (since October 2008). Recruitment activity exceeds pre-COVID-19 levels across all states and territories.

The April 2021 Vacancy Report (preliminary) is now available here.

The detailed IVI release for April 2021, including occupational, regional and skill level data will be published on Wednesday 19 May 2021.
