Strong Internet Vacancy growth continues in the regions
Over the year, recruitment activity has increased in all states and territories and all skill level groups by a total of 24.8%, or 38,100 job advertisements to February 2021.
The detailed Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) Report for February 2021, released today, shows internet vacancy growth across the country for the 10th consecutive month.
- The strongest growth in recruitment activity over the year was in regional areas. Dubbo & Western NSW recorded the strongest increase in job advertisements over the year up by 94.7% or 620 job advertisements, followed by Southern Highlands & Snowy NSW 78.2% or 360 job advertisements.
- Job advertisements increased across all states and territories over the month. Recruitment activity in the ACT recorded a new series high of 6,700 job advertisements in February 2021.
- In February 2021, the strongest growth in internet advertisement for occupational groups was Labourers, up by 66.5% or 6,000 job advertisements, followed by Machinery Operators and Drivers up 50.6% or 3,700 job advertisements.
- Job advertisements increased in all 48 detailed occupational groups during February 2021. Hospitality Workers recorded the largest increase of all detailed occupations over the month up by 1,200 job advertisements or 23.0%, followed by ICT Professionals up by 1,100 job advertisements or 11.8%.

The IVI is the only publicly available source of detailed data on online vacancies, including for around 350 occupations (at all skill levels), as well as for the states/territories and 37 regions. The IVI is based on account of online job advertisements newly lodged on SEEK, CareerOne and Australian Job Search during the month. As such, the IVI does not reflect the total number of job advertisements in the labour market as it does not include jobs advertised through other online job boards, employer websites, word of mouth, in newspapers, and advertisements in shop windows. The IVI also does not take account of multiple positions being advertised in a single job advertisement.
